Are you poisoning your family?

The most popular household cleaning products often get poor ratings in terms of safety. Case in point: Lysol Disinfecting Wipes are the best selling wipes on Amazon, yet they get a “D” (“A” is tops) rating by the non-profit consumer protection EWG (Environmental Working Group).

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser cleaning pads are also the best seller on Amazon, but they also get a “D” rating from the EWG.

Both of these cleaning products happen to be made by Procter & Gamble, by far the largest maker of cleaning products in the world. The EWG has tested 375 of P&G’s products. 176 products scored a “D” for health safety and 168 scored an “F”.

The EWG makes it very easy to check the safety of your cleaning products. Simply go to this website and search for the product you are currently using. If your product scores poorly (C,D, or F) you can find equivalent products on this same site that score better.

Many people make their own cleaning products using common products like baking soda and vinegar. Here’s a Good Housekeeping article showing how to make 9 different effective cleaners …at home.

Victoria and I have been using a line of cleaning products made with plant-derived ingredients and essential oils for nearly 10 years. They work as well or better than any of the chemical based products we’ve used in the past …and they smell better! The best part is that neither of us has had cold or flu symptoms since we started using these products.

If you’re interested in changing cleaning products and want to know specifically what we use, let me know. I’m always happy to help you have a healthier life.
